Privacy Policy

The short version: Darling is private by design. The things you track — your journal, cravings, mood, quit date, smoking habits, and cycle information — are stored only on your device. We don't run accounts, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across apps. The only data that ever leaves your device is the purchase information needed to run optional subscriptions.

This Privacy Policy explains how the Darling mobile app ("Darling", "we", "us") handles information. By using Darling, you agree to this policy.

1. Information stored on your device

Darling stores the following locally on your phone so the app can work. This information is not transmitted to us or any server:

Profile: your name or nickname, quit date and time, and notification preferences.
Smoking habits: cigarettes per day and pack cost, used to calculate money and time saved.
Cycle information: your last period date and average cycle length, if you choose to enter or sync them.
Journal & cravings: entries, moods, craving intensity, and notes you log.

This data lives in the app's local database. Deleting the app, or using Log out in Settings, removes it from your device.

2. Cycle features and health data

Darling's cycle-aware features use your last period date and average cycle length. Entering them is optional, and the information stays on your device.

On iPhone, cycle information is entered manually in the app. Darling does not currently read from or write to Apple Health.

On Android, you may optionally enable syncing with Health Connect:

Read: your most recent menstrual period date, used to determine your current cycle phase.
Write: a mindfulness/exercise session when you complete a Craving SOS breathing exercise.

Health data is used only on your device to power cycle-aware features. It is never sent to us, never shared with third parties, and never used for advertising. On Android you can grant or revoke Health Connect permissions at any time in Settings or in the Health Connect app. Using Health Connect is entirely optional — you can also enter your last period date manually, or skip cycle features altogether.

3. Subscriptions and payments

Darling offers an optional premium subscription. Payments are processed by the app store you bought it from — the Apple App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android. The app store handles the transaction and your payment details; we never see or store your payment information.

To manage subscriptions and unlock premium features, Darling uses RevenueCat, a subscription-management service. When you purchase or restore a subscription, RevenueCat receives your purchase and transaction information along with an anonymous, app-generated identifier. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any personal profile — Darling has no accounts. RevenueCat uses it to verify your purchase and to provide us with aggregate revenue statistics; it is never used for advertising or to track you across other apps. RevenueCat's handling of this data is governed by the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.

Your purchase is also subject to the privacy policy of your app store: the Apple Privacy Policy or the Google Privacy Policy.

4. Notifications

If you enable notifications, Darling schedules reminders (milestone celebrations, daily encouragement, and gentle cycle nudges) locally on your device. These are generated on-device and not sent through our servers.

5. What we do not do

We do not require an account or collect your email to use the app.
We do not show ads.
We do not use advertising identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA), and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
We do not use behavioral or marketing analytics SDKs that profile how you use the app.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information.

The only information that leaves your device is the subscription purchase data described in Section 3, used solely to operate subscriptions. A community leaderboard is not active in the app. If we introduce it in the future, it will be strictly opt-in and clearly described before any information is shared.

6. Children

Darling is intended for adults (18+) who are quitting smoking. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

7. Data retention & deletion

Because your data is stored on your device, you are in control of it. To delete everything, use Log out in Settings or uninstall the app. To manage Health Connect data, use the Health Connect app on your phone.

8. Security

Your information stays within the app's private storage on your device, protected by your device's own security. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but keeping data on-device avoids the risks of transmitting and storing it elsewhere.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app.
